Drobo: Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboa, the Bono Regional Minister, announced that the region is benefiting from the government's decision to uncap the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND). He highlighted that this initiative has led to the expansion of educational infrastructure, thereby improving access to education and promoting quality learning in the region.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Akwaboa credited the uncapping of GETFUND during President John Dramani Mahama's administration with accelerating infrastructure development and educational growth. Speaking at the 'Accounting for the People Series' in Drobo, he emphasized that the series is part of the government's effort to ensure accountability, transparency, and participatory governance. The initiative aims to inform citizens about government policies and development efforts.
Mr Akwaboa detailed that the uncapping of GETFUND has facilitated various infrastructure projects in the education sector of the region. Projects such as the construction of science laboratory blocks, administration blocks, dormitory facilities, and classroom blocks in tertiary institutions, senior high, and basic schools are among the benefits realized from the GETFUND.
He underscored the government's commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure to support effective teaching and learning, which is essential for achieving beneficial educational outcomes. Additionally, Mr Akwaboa addressed concerns of local cashew farmers, urging them to remain patient as the government works towards establishing the Cashew Board. This board aims to regulate the sector and ensure fair pricing for farmers.
