Accra: The Minister of the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, has disclosed that private security personnel linked to the Kristo Asafo Mission were found using unapproved uniforms and arms, in violation of licensing conditions.
According to Ghana Web, the minister explained during an exclusive interview on Accra-based Joy News on June 24, 2026, that the police are responsible for approving and issuing uniforms for private security organizations to aid identification and tracking. However, the security personnel of the Kristo Asafo Mission were found in violation of these regulations by using unapproved uniforms.
Muntaka stated, "We realized that they were using unapproved uniform. You know, every private security organization, the police is supposed to give you the uniform you have to use. It helps us with tracking. They were using a different uniform other than what was approved."
Additionally, the minister revealed that a cache of arms was discovered with the security personnel, some of which were not properly licensed. "This cache of arms, I'm sure you saw them, were all being used by those security guys against the condition under which the guns were licensed. Some were licensed, some were not. It's against the condition under which those licenses were issued," he added.
The minister emphasized that such violations have led to the termination of the licenses of the private security outfit. "We have to terminate the licenses. Today they were in court. They were put before court. I've just been informed that they've been granted bail under some condition. And we are going to pursue that because I'm the prosecutor," Muntaka mentioned.
These revelations come amid heightened scrutiny of private security operations within the Kristo Asafo Mission, following recent confrontations tied to a succession dispute.
