Accra: Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that UMB Bank is now fully recapitalised and positioned to expand its support for individuals, businesses and institutions. Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review in Parliament, he said the Ghana Amalgamated Trust (GAT) had completed the full capitalisation of UMB Bank, strengthening the bank's capacity to participate in Ghana's economic development.
According to Ghana Web, the Finance Minister emphasized the importance of this development, highlighting that UMB Bank, along with Prudential Bank, is now fully capitalised and ready for business. He urged customers and businesses to engage with these revitalised institutions to access enhanced banking services and support for economic activities.
The successful recapitalisation of these two indigenous banks is part of the government's broader financial sector reforms. These reforms aim to bolster confidence in the banking industry, support businesses, create jobs, and contribute to Ghana's economic transformation. The government's efforts reflect a commitment to strengthening the stability of Ghana's financial sector and laying a stronger foundation for economic growth.
