UK Temporarily Closes Embassy in Tehran

Tehran: The United Kingdom embassy has been temporarily closed and will operate remotely, the government said on Wednesday after a brutal crackdown on pro-democracy protesters in Iran.

According to Ghana News Agency, the closure follows a statement by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who indicated that the UK was collaborating with allies to impose further sanctions on the Iranian regime. The decision reflects the escalating violence in Iran, where thousands of anti-government demonstrators have reportedly been killed in recent weeks.

A UK government spokesperson announced on Wednesday, "We have temporarily closed the British Embassy in Tehran, this will now operate remotely." The spokesperson also mentioned that the Foreign Office has updated travel advice to reflect the consular change, urging UK nationals to be mindful of the situation.
