Winneba: Professor Fred Yao Gbagbo of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has emphasized the importance of unity in advancing knowledge, promoting well-being, and contributing to national development and the Sustainable Development Goals. He articulated this vision during the 2026 FHASHEE faculty educational fair and Alumni Homecoming event held at Winneba.
According to Ghana News Agency, the event's theme, 'Building Together for Sustainable Future; Strengthening the FHASHEE Legacy through Alumni Partnership,' underscored the faculty's goal to enhance education, science, and services in Ghana and beyond. Chaired by Prof. Frimpong Kaakyire Duku from the Department of Art Education on behalf of Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, the Vice Chancellor of UEW, the fair aimed to raise funds for constructing a state-of-the-art FHASHEE block.
The event featured a variety of activities, including a gymnastics display by the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Sports, as well as a fashion show by the Department of Clothing and Textiles and Integrated Home Economics Education. Prof. Gbagbo highlighted that the program extended beyond academia, serving as a platform to showcase achievements, innovations, research findings, and community impact while fostering connections among students, faculty, industry, the larger community, and alumni.
Prof. Gbagbo expressed the faculty's mission to evolve into an internationally renowned center for teaching and research in health, allied sciences, and home economics education. The goal is to produce competent professionals capable of offering relevant policy advice in these fields. He noted that FHASHEE comprises several departments offering 15 distinct programs, including degrees, diplomas, and postgraduate studies at national and international levels.
The departments within the faculty, such as Garment and Textiles Education, Environmental Health and Sanitation Education, and others, provide an excellent choice for students aiming to excel in health, allied sciences, and home economics education. Prof. Gbagbo emphasized the faculty's distinctive identity, combining diverse disciplines to positively impact the job market.
Prof. Gbagbo highlighted the faculty's significant achievements in teaching, research, and community engagement, citing impactful research on public health, occupational safety, food security, nutrition, and sustainable livelihoods. The educational fair served as an opportunity to share these successes with partners, stakeholders, and friends while inspiring future professionals and fostering collaborations.
In his address, Prof. Gbagbo underscored the importance of sharing knowledge and committed to strengthening ties with industry, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, local communities, and alumni. He called for financial and material support from individuals and organizations to support the faculty's educational projects abroad.
