Accra: Mr. Bright Yaw Ahorlu, a 29-year-old graduate from Mafi-Kumase in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region, is urgently seeking financial support to undergo open-heart surgery. Ahorlu, who graduated with First Class Honours in BSc. Biochemistry from the University of Cape Coast and is an alumnus of Sogakope Senior High School, was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect in July 2024 at the National Cardiothoracic Centre in Accra.
According to Ghana News Agency, medical specialists have advised that Ahorlu requires immediate surgery, which is estimated to cost USD 9,000. This amount covers further investigations, anesthesia, surgery, intensive care, and a two-week hospital admission. Ahorlu, who learned of his life-threatening condition just as he was about to begin employment with a reputable company, has reached out for assistance through the agency, stating that despite his family and well-wishers' efforts, the required funds are beyond their means.
"My condition has worsened since my diagnosis more than a year ago, making everyday activities a challenge. The cost of the surgery and related medical care is estimated at USD 9,000, which, even with the support from my family, colleagues, and well-wishers, remains out of reach," Ahorlu expressed. He emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that he has been given until the end of the month to make a payment so that a surgery date can be set for February. Ahorlu's next review session is scheduled for Thursday, January 29, and he has been advised to bring at least a 50 percent deposit to begin preparations.
In a heartfelt appeal, Ahorlu called on benevolent individuals, especially His Eminence Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, the Volta Region's Representative on the Council of State, and his Tanko Foundation, to assist him in his time of need. He highlighted that such humanitarian support would not only save his life but also provide hope to his family and allow him to contribute meaningfully to society.
