Accra: The Diaso District Court has remanded two individuals into lawful custody following allegations of an assault on a Pragia rider in the Central Region's Diaso. The accused, Emmanuel Frimpong, aged 19, and Perpetual Amoako, aged 21, both currently unemployed, have pleaded not guilty to charges related to abetment of crime, specifically causing harm. Frimpong is also facing an additional charge for possessing a firearm without lawful authority.
According to Ghana News Agency, law enforcement officials informed the court that a third suspect, identified as Enoch and also known as Awuoye, who is alleged to have assaulted the complainant, Bright Agyei, with a machete, is still at large. Enoch is also said to have ordered the incident to be recorded on video, which was later circulated on social media platforms.
The presiding judge, Mr. Lord Delvin Essandoh, decided to remand the accused after the prosecution opposed bail, citing concerns that the release of the accused could impede ongoing investigations, especially since the third suspect remains unapprehended. The court indicated that the bail application would be revisited during the next adjourned session and instructed the prosecution to submit its disclosures. Additionally, a bench warrant has been issued for Enoch's arrest.
Presenting the case details, the prosecution stated that the complainant, a local Pragia rider, and the accused individuals are all residents of Diaso. On July 11, 2026, Amoako, Frimpong's girlfriend, reportedly informed him that Agyei had allegedly threatened him with a knife.
Further, the prosecution narrated that on July 13, 2026, at approximately 1630 hours, Agyei was operating his Pragia on the Diaso-Amobaka road when Frimpong and Enoch, in an unregistered Honda Civic saloon car, purportedly obstructed his path. Enoch allegedly assaulted Agyei, and with Frimpong's help, forced him into the vehicle, subsequently driving towards Amobaka.
The vehicle later halted near a bush, where Enoch reportedly used Perpetual's mobile phone to confirm Agyei's identity before handing his phone to Frimpong to record the assault. Enoch then allegedly inflicted injuries on Agyei with a machete.
A police officer passing by intervened and rescued Agyei, while Enoch managed to flee the scene. The prosecution reported that Agyei filed a report at the Diaso Police Station, prompting investigations and Frimpong's arrest at his hideout in Diaso. A search of Frimpong's residence reportedly uncovered a pump-action gun loaded with six live AAA cartridges.
The prosecution also mentioned that the unregistered Honda Civic saloon car allegedly utilized in the incident has been retrieved and impounded for further investigation. Authorities are continuing their search for Enoch to ensure he faces trial.
