Adabraka: The Adabraka District Court has granted GHC30,000.00 bail with two sureties each to two persons accused of damaging a tombstone at the Osu Cemetery. Joseph Donkor, 35, faces charges of causing unlawful damage to a tombstone belonging to the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, while Eric Tawiah Annang, 62, is charged with abetment. Both individuals pleaded not guilty and have been ordered to reappear before the Court on March 24, 2026.
According to Ghana News Agency, an alleged accomplice in the case remains at large. Police Chief Inspector Apewah Achana presented the facts, noting that the complainant was the head of the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly Task Force. Chief Inspector Achana further explained that Annang, a contractor from Osu, and Donkor, a labourer residing near the Arts Centre, were involved in the incident.
Chief Inspector Achana told the Court that on February 8, 2026, at approximately 0800 hours, the sexton at the Osu Cemetery, accompanied by a witness, conducted a patrol following allegations of illegal grave digging. During their patrol, the witness heard noises within the cemetery and proceeded to investigate.
The prosecution revealed that the witness discovered Donkor and his accomplices attempting to disinter a grave after damaging the tombstone. The witness instructed them to cease their activities and directed them to accompany him to his office. On the way, Annang confronted the witness, claiming that he had authorized the work because he possessed a permit.
The task force later arrived at the cemetery, prompting the accomplices to flee upon seeing them. Annang and Donkor were subsequently arrested and taken to the Osu Police Station for further investigation. During the investigations, the accused admitted to the offences and were subsequently charged to appear before the Court.
