Accra: Two individuals lost their lives, and several others sustained injuries following a road crash involving a Hyundai Mighty truck and a Bajaj rickshaw at the Civic Centre traffic lights in Ho.
According to Ghana News Agency, the accident occurred at approximately 1430 hours and involved a Hyundai Mighty truck bearing registration number GE 5963-23 and a Bajaj rickshaw with registration number M-21-VR 3558. The Volta Regional Police Communication Room alerted officers about the incident, who then proceeded to the scene.
Upon arrival, the Police discovered both vehicles heavily damaged at their respective resting positions. The injured were promptly transported to the Ho Municipal Hospital and the Ho Teaching Hospital for medical care. At these facilities, Bome Comfort, 22; Mr. Muntari Munkila, 44; Sterling Govor, five; and Mr. Yaw Botwe, 43, the driver of the Hyundai truck, were found in stable condition and receiving treatment. Another victim, Mr. Abubakar Larabu, 44, was reported to be in critical condition and is also undergoing treatment.
Tragically, Vivian Prempeh, 43, and Osei Portia, 26, were pronounced dead upon arrival by medical officers at the respective health facilities. Their bodies have been deposited at the morgues of the Ho Municipal Hospital and the Ho Teaching Hospital pending autopsy.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Mr. Yaw Botwe was traveling from Wusuta towards Accra with two unidentified passengers. Police reports indicate that upon reaching the Civic Centre traffic lights, the driver allegedly veered into the opposite lane, colliding with the Bajaj rickshaw operated by Mr. Darko Kwabena, 38. The truck reportedly continued to move after the collision, crashing into a nearby hair salon and boutique, causing further injuries and fatalities.
The driver remains hospitalized under Police observation, as investigations into the incident continue.
