Accra: Upper West Region Two Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates have been killed in a fatal road crash in the Upper West Region. The victims, identified as Taufii Ibrahim and Abdul Khalid, were pupils of Charia Roman Catholic Junior High School.
According to Ghana Web, the two were travelling by motorcycle from Charia to their examination centre in Wa on Sunday, May 3, 2026. They were making the journey to stay in Wa for the week-long examinations due to the unavailability of a centre in their community. Motorcycles, commonly known as okada, are the primary means of transport in the area.
The victims were rushed to a nearby health facility, where Taufii was pronounced dead on arrival. Abdul Khalid succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on Monday, May 4, 2026. The incident has occurred as more than 620,000 candidates are sitting for the week-long examination, which has commenced nationwide.
