Accra: Two identical twin sisters, Ivy Yeboah Afrane Panin and Ivy Yeboah Afrane Kakra, celebrated their nuptials on December 20, 2025, at The Maker's House Chapel, Destiny Arena, Atomic, Accra, marking a unique event as they tied the knot on the same day.
According to Ghana Web, the rare occurrence was first reported by Graphic Online on January 10, 2026. Before the white wedding, family and close friends gathered on December 19 at the Ashongman Estates residence of the twins' father, Anthony Obeng Afrane, to witness the traditional marriage ceremony.
At the traditional wedding, distinguishing the sisters was a challenge for most guests, with their kente gown colors serving as a guide-Panin in green and Kakra in pink, matched by their respective spouses. In an interview, the twins shared that they had always dreamt of marrying on the same day, inspired by their uncles, also twins, who had a joint wedding years ago.
Kakra revealed in an interview that they initially planned separate weddings, but when their proposed dates coincided, their parents suggested a joint ceremony. Panin's fianc© was quick to agree, whereas Kakra's fianc© required some persuasion.
The sisters reflected on the collaborative planning process, sharing that deciding on the colors was a significant task. They eventually embraced the combination of pink and green, finding it more aesthetically pleasing than anticipated. Their planning involved an Excel sheet for coordination, particularly concerning finances, with their partners actively participating.
Adjusting to married life presented new challenges. Panin noted the difficulty of spending her first night apart from Kakra, having always shared a bed. Kakra found comfort in their continued daily interactions through work.
The sisters, often mistaken for one another due to their shared names, were raised dressing alike, a tradition encouraged by their mother, herself a twin. Their grandmother also bore two sets of twins, including their uncles who had a joint wedding. From their school years at Archbishop Porter Girls' SHS in Takoradi to Central University and the University of Ghana, the twins have always been together. They currently work in different units at the same institution and are enrolled in law school.
Their father, Anthony Obeng Afrane, described the day as unforgettable, expressing his joy and pride as he witnessed his daughters embark on their new journeys. It was a celebration of their strong bond and the realization of dreams and prayers.
