Accra: The Water Resources Commission (WRC) has issued a warning regarding the potential for controlled water spillage from Burkina Faso's Bagre Dam, which could commence on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, if the reservoir level reaches 234.00 metres.
According to Ghana Web, the WRC released a statement on August 5, 2026, highlighting that SONABEL, the operator of the Bagre Dam, had reported the reservoir's water level at 232.93 metres as of Tuesday, August 4, 2026. At that time, the dam was 62.77% full, indicating that the threshold for spillage could soon be met.
The Commission has reiterated that controlled spillage will begin if the reservoir water level rises to 234.00 metres. SONABEL has prepared to initiate the spillage on the specified date should the water level reach the critical point.
The WRC has urged communities along the White Volta River and nearby areas to exercise caution and follow the safety guidelines provided by local assemblies and relevant state agencies. The emphasis is on taking necessary precautions to prevent any potential harm from the impending water release.
Communities are advised to remain vigilant and adhere to the instructions from local authorities to ensure their safety during this period of heightened risk.
