Anyako: Togbi Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VII, Dufia of Anyako-Konu and Paramount Chief of Amugo-Vego Traditional Area in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, has expressed his appreciation to the government for their dedication to the Anyako-Konu-Seva water project.
According to Ghana News Agency, the project fulfills a long-standing promise to provide clean water to the community, addressing nearly 23 years of water scarcity and its associated health issues. Togbi Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VII acknowledged the contribution of royal families who donated land for the project, emphasizing the importance of their support in realizing this essential development for Anyako.
The chief commended the Ghana Water Company for maintaining the water system over the years and praised the Rural Water Agency for taking over the project, ensuring continuous water supply in the township. Despite being invited to the commissioning ceremony, Togbi Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VII did not attend due to a legal injunction. He explained that a lawsuit concerning the land's use prevented his access, but he opted to respect the legal process to avoid controversy.
Togbi Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VII reiterated that providing water has been his priority since ascending the throne, and he sees the project's completion as a realization of his goals. He expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, Volta Regional Minister Mr. James Gunu, Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources Mr. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, and Water and Sanitation Minister for their efforts in making the project a success.
The traditional leader highlighted the project's impact in reducing water-borne diseases and improving the community's well-being. He urged residents to take ownership of the project by paying bills promptly, ensuring its smooth operation, and expressed optimism that this initiative would serve as a model for future water projects in the region.
Togbi Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VII remains committed to sustainable water management and tasked the Ghana Water Company with maintaining the facility for long-term use. The commissioning of the 60,000-litre mechanized water project marks a significant milestone in combating water scarcity in the area.
