Titus Glover Criticizes Leadership Changes at GRIDCo Amid Akosombo Fire Investigation

Accra: Former Greater Accra Regional Minister and Tema East MP, Titus Glover, has criticized the decision to ask the CEO of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), Ing Mark Awuah Baah, to step aside, describing the move as premature and unnecessary. Glover expressed his concerns over the leadership change during an interview on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem, highlighting that investigations into the Akosombo substation fire are still ongoing.

According to Ghana Web, Glover questioned the rationale behind the decision to remove Baah, who is due for retirement in June and will soon proceed on leave. He argued that the fire outbreak at the Akosombo Substation seemed accidental from a layman's perspective, and emphasized the need to focus on resolving the issue rather than making hasty leadership changes. Glover stated, "If there is evidential proof that some people are sabotaging efforts, then we can take them on. But we shouldn't act based on gossip and speculation."

The fire at the Akosombo Substation resulted in significant damage to critical infrastructure, causing widespread power outages across Ghana and leading to a shutdown of operations at the Akosombo Dam. Authorities have initiated investigations to determine the cause of the blaze and the extent of the damage. The Minister's directive to temporarily relieve Baah of his duties is aimed at ensuring a transparent and independent investigation.

In response to the incident, there have already been changes within the sector, including a reshuffle of the Ashanti Regional leadership of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), as officials work to stabilize power distribution. Glover questioned the necessity of these dismissals, asking, "Why can't we look at the issue going on and deal with the problem? These people who are being sacked, are they the cause of the problem? I need some education."
