Accra: Ghanaian preacher and founder of Heaven's Gate Ministries, Prophet Kumchacha, has criticised organisers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards over the uncertainty surrounding the venue for this year's ceremony. Speaking during a discussion on UTV's United Showbiz on April 19, 2026, Prophet Kumchacha mentioned that organisers should have planned ahead and secured alternative venues long before now.
According to Ghana Web, with the event scheduled for May 9 and only a few weeks left, the organisers should have ensured there would be no problems with the venue. Prophet Kumchacha stated, "Organisers who are doing the work are poor. You have an event coming up on May 9, and we have three weeks more to go. Why won't you look for where to host the event first so you would know you've sorted that out and there won't be any problem."
He further argued that focusing on a single location was risky, suggesting that organisers should have secured multiple venues to provide alternatives if needed. "Instead of them focusing on a particular location, they could have secured more places so that if one place fails, you still have options. Now that they didn't get the venue they wanted and they're confused on what to do, what would they do?" he continued.
Prophet Kumchacha compared the situation to how churches organise crusades, citing that they always prepare backup venues in case unexpected issues arise. "Even us the preachers, when we go somewhere for a crusade, we don't rely on just one location. Since the place is big enough, we secure other places too so that when one place fails, we have other options," he explained.
He recounted instances where churches had made preparations for crusades only to be denied access to the land due to unforeseen problems, stating, "Sometimes, after arranging our things and getting ready to begin, they would say there's a problem on the land, so they wouldn't allow us."
Prophet Kumchacha questioned why organisers had not resolved the issue with the government earlier to prevent the current confusion surrounding the event venue. "Why didn't the organisers arrange with the government before this drama could start?" he added.
