Tema: Mr Ludwig Teye Totimeh, Tema West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), and Mr James Enu, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, have urged candidates sitting for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to remain focused, disciplined, and confident.
According to Ghana News Agency, the MP addressed candidates at various examination centres on the first day of the exams, encouraging them to approach the examination with seriousness and determination. He described the examination as the foundation of their academic journey, emphasizing the importance of building a strong educational base. 'This exam is very important because it forms the foundation of your future education. If you build a strong foundation, you will be able to stand firm,' Mr Enu stated.
He further advised candidates to avoid examination malpractice, stressing that honesty and adequate preparation were essential for success. Mr Enu noted that confidence during examinations often reflected the level of preparation.
Mr Totimeh motivated candidates to remain calm and self-assured, urging them to apply all they had been taught. 'Go and face the exams with confidence. What you have studied is enough; just remain calm and give it your best,' he said, highlighting the examination as a critical transition from basic to senior high education. He encouraged candidates to excel in the examinations to make their parents, teachers, and themselves proud.
Madam Fatima Akuye Antiaye, Human Resource Manager for the Tema West Municipal Education Directorate, reminded candidates to adhere strictly to examination rules and regulations. She cautioned them against carrying foreign materials into the examination halls and emphasized the importance of time management and punctuality.
The team visited several examination centres, including Tema Secondary School, Trinity Lutheran School, Holy Child School, and Sakumono School Complex. A total of 4249 candidates, comprising 2201 females and 2048 males, are participating in the examination across 12 centres in the municipality.
