Tema: The Tema Region of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has invested GHS13,079,669 in transformer replacements over the last quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026.
According to Ghana Web, this expenditure was disclosed by Ing. Ankomah Emmanuel, the General Manager of the Tema Region, during a meeting with media personnel at the ECG Nungua District Office. Ing. Ankomah detailed that GHS9,379,765 was allocated for replacing 32 transformers in the last quarter of 2025, while GHS3,699,903 was spent on 22 transformers in the first quarter of 2026.
Ing. Ankomah explained that the replacements were necessitated by various issues, including vandalism of transformers by individuals, which renders them unusable. Another concern is unauthorized interference by community members who switch phases independently, leading to overloads and potential transformer burnouts. This interference could result in prosecution if culprits are identified.
Additionally, Ing. Ankomah highlighted vehicle collisions with installations as a significant cause of extensive and irreparable damage, necessitating transformer replacements. He urged the public and community leaders to assist in safeguarding ECG properties to ensure a stable power supply. Ing. Ankomah expressed gratitude to community leaders who promptly notify ECG of outages, enabling timely fault resolution.
