Susuanho: The Tano North Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Ahafo Region has sensitised the residents of Susuanho, a farming community in the Municipality, on Social Auditing. The sensitisation event, conducted at Susuanho near Duayaw-Nkwanta, the Municipal capital, aimed to enlighten and inspire residents to actively participate in local government, thereby promoting transparency and accountability.
According to Ghana News Agency, the event was attended by a diverse group of community members, including chiefs, queens, assembly members, teachers, religious organisations, youth and women leaders, and some Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). During the event, Mr Eric Adomako, the Tano North Municipal Coordinating Director, praised the NCCE for organising the event and emphasised the importance of public involvement in decision-making processes.
Mr Victor Osei, the Tano North Municipal Director of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), encouraged citizens to hold duty bearers accountable. He highlighted that demanding accountability would motivate public officers to perform their duties diligently, warning that complacency among citizens could lead to unrestrained actions by officials.
Mr Eric Adu, the Ahafo Regional Director of the NCCE, educated participants on the concept of social auditing and advocated for active community engagement in the assembly's decision-making processes. He noted that such engagement would ensure that development projects are aligned with the community's needs. Social auditing also provides a platform for duty bearers to account for their actions in a non-political manner, helping to identify gaps in policy delivery.
Mr Adu expressed gratitude to GIZ and its partners for supporting NCCE in fulfilling its constitutional mandate to enhance civic education.
