Tackling Youth Unemployment Becomes Central Focus for Ghana’s Economic Reforms

Accra: The Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has revealed that the government's primary focus is now on addressing youth unemployment as the country enters the next phase of economic reforms, following measures to stabilize the economy. Dr Forson made this announcement after meeting with Paschal Donohoe, Managing Director and Chief Knowledge Officer of the World Bank Group, in Accra. The government, led by John Dramani Mahama, is shifting its attention toward job creation after dedicating the past year to resetting the nation's finances and ensuring a sustainable economic path. According to Ghana Web, Dr Forson emphasized that the public sector alone cannot absorb the rapidly growing youth population in Ghana. To tackle this challenge, the government is implementing significant policies and programs aimed at creating sustainable employment opportunities and fostering private sector growth. The World Bank Group has expressed its readiness to assist Ghana in these efforts. This includes conducting a Jobs and Growth Analysis to identify new areas for job creation and economic expansion, reinforcing the government's commitment to addressing youth unemployment and encouraging economic development.
