Agona swedru: The Swedruman Council of Chiefs has recognized Miss Kaiser Adaakwa, the top-performing candidate in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), along with three distinguished government officials in the Swedru Municipality. This commendation is part of the Council's ongoing efforts to promote excellence and development in the region.
According to Ghana News Agency, Miss Adaakwa, currently a second-year student at Wesley Girls Senior High School in Cape Coast, achieved a single-digit aggregate in the BECE. For her outstanding academic achievements, she was awarded a citation and a cash prize of GHC 1,000. The event also saw the recognition of three government officials: Mr. Bismark Ofei Mfoafo, the Agona West Municipal Director of Education; Dr. Julius Abuku, the Medical Superintendent of the Swedru Municipal government hospital; and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr. Douglas Kumi, the Agona Swedru Divisional Commander. They received citations for their significant contributions to peace and development in the area.
The awards were presented during a durbar of chiefs and the people of Agona Swedru as part of their annual Abangye festival. Nana Esieni V, the Odikro of Agona Swedru, highlighted the Council's commitment to motivating students by recalling the similar honors given to four BECE candidates three years ago to encourage better academic performance among Junior High School students.
Nana Esieni V, also the Nifahene of Agona Swedru, emphasized the transformative power of education in breaking the cycle of poverty and urged parents to prioritize their children's education. He announced recent revisions to funeral regulations by the Swedruman Council aimed at alleviating financial burdens on bereaved families, especially widows, warning that violations of these new rules would attract penalties from the Council.
Mr. Offei Mfoafo, the Municipal Education Director, called on parents and educational stakeholders to support teachers in delivering quality education, which is crucial for achieving excellent academic outcomes. He underscored the efforts of the Ghana Education Service and highlighted the need for collective action to enhance teaching and learning quality in Agona West Municipality.
Mr. Eric Gyamfi Odoom, the Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, reassured the public of the Assembly's commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure in the area. He expressed concerns over ongoing chieftaincy disputes in Agona Abodom, Upper Bobikuma, and Agona Swedru, which have hindered development initiatives. Mr. Odoom appealed to the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Council and the Central Regional House of Chiefs to help resolve these disputes, which have complicated the implementation of government policies and programs intended to benefit the communities.
