Accra: The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has praised Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, along with several Members of Parliament, for their commitment to donate their salaries to the National Sports Fund. According to Ghana News Agency, the National Sports Fund, established in December 2025, aims to create a structured and sustainable financing system for sports development in Ghana. During a parliamentary session on Thursday, February 19, the Minister announced his decision to donate his two months' salary to support the fund's objectives. Joining the initiative, Mr. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the Majority Chief Whip, pledged to contribute three months of his salary. Mr. Dickson Kyere-Duah, SWAG's Regional Vice Chairman in Brong Ahafo and MP for Berekum West, also demonstrated support. A statement from Mr. Kwabena Yeboah, President of SWAG, highlighted the importance of this gesture as a demonstration of leadership and commitment to sports development in Ghana. It emp hasized the critical timing of the donation, given the need for sustained financial support for athlete preparation, grassroots development, and infrastructure maintenance. SWAG remarked that the actions of the Sports Minister and MPs sent a message about shared responsibility and national ownership of sports growth. The Association urged corporate Ghana, state-owned enterprises, financial institutions, and private businesses to contribute to the National Sports Fund, emphasizing that sports is a national asset and a tool for youth empowerment, social cohesion, and national pride. The Association expressed readiness to collaborate with stakeholders to advocate for transparency, accountability, and effective use of the Fund, ensuring that contributions yield tangible benefits for athletes and the broader sports ecosystem.
