Assin Akrofuom:The Assin South District Police Command has detained a father and his son in connection with the alleged murder of a 31-year-old man in Assin Akrofuom. The deceased, identified as Mr. Samuel Kofi Amankwa, also known as 'Kofi Marshie,' died under circumstances currently under police investigation.
According to Ghana News Agency, the suspects, Joseph Mensah and his son, Anthony Mensah, have been provisionally charged with murder and are assisting police with the investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the altercation began when one of the suspects allegedly caught Mr. Amankwa stealing half a bag of fresh cocoa beans. The incident may also be linked to previous accusations of the deceased stealing coconut seedlings from the suspects.
Chief Superintendent Edmund Agyemang Badu, the Central North Regional Crime Officer, confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects voluntarily reported to the police. Upon visiting the crime scene, police discovered Mr. Amankwa's body lying near an electricity pole, with a nylon rope suspected to have been used to tie him. An examination of the body showed bruises on the hands, eyebrows, and waist, consistent with an assault.
However, Nana Kofi Ohemeng, a family member of the deceased, provided a different version of events. He claimed that the suspects forcibly entered Mr. Amankwa's room while he was asleep, dragged him outside, and assaulted him. The alleged assault reportedly took place approximately 500 meters from his room. Police investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
