Sunyani: The Sunyani Traditional Council has announced the peaceful resolution of a chieftaincy dispute, leading to the reinstatement of Nana Akosua Dua Asor Sika Brayie II as the Paramount Queen Mother of the Sunyani Traditional Area. The council praised the role of Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, in facilitating the resolution.
According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Kwaku Sarbeng II, the Akwamuhene and Acting President of the Sunyani Traditional Council, revealed during a news conference in Sunyani that four divisional queens, who were suspended alongside the paramount queen mother, have also been reinstated. The dispute had involved the Queen Mother and Odeefour Ogyemansan Boahen Korkor II, the Paramount Chief, who were embroiled in a legal battle over the rightful occupant of the Sunyani Paramount stool for nearly a year.
The conflict began following the enstoolment of Odeefour Korkor II after the death of the late paramount chief, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II, in 2022, which left the stool vacant. This led to divisions among sub-chiefs and sub-queens, hindering development efforts in the region.
The resolution was reached after a meeting on February 2, 2026, between the Chieftaincy Minister, the paramount queen mother, the paramount chief, and some sub-chiefs. Nana Sarbeng stated that all parties have agreed to recognize Odeefour Korkor II and Nana Brayie II as the Paramount Chief and Paramount Queen Mother, respectively, and to discontinue any pending court cases for the sake of peace and unity.
He urged the factions to support the resolution, unite, and collaborate for development. Mr. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, the Bono Regional Minister, attended the event and commended the amicable resolution, emphasizing the importance of unity for the development of Sunyani and the Bono Region.
