Sunyani: The Boahen Korkor Royal Family, occupant of the Sunyani Paramount Stool, has announced the passing of Obaapanin Yaa Anima, the mother of the late Paramount Queen-mother of the Sunyani Traditional Area, Nana Yaa Nyamaa Poduo II.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Sumankwaahene announced the death of Obaapanin Anima, popularly known as 'Yie', to the traditional council on Thursday, May 21, 2026. Mr. Ransford Antwi, the spokesperson for the Boahen Korkor Royal Family, informed the media in Sunyani about this development.
Mr. Antwi stated that Obaapanin Anima was recognized as a significant figure in Sunyani and a strong pillar within the Boahen Korkor Royal Family. She played a crucial role in the selection, nomination, and enstoolment of Odeefour Boahen Korkor II, the Omanhene of the Sunyani Traditional Area.
He further detailed that Obaapanin Anima considered her duties fulfilled following the enstoolment of the Omanhene, believing she had honored the wishes of her ancestors. This sentiment was echoed by family members, including Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, who was visibly moved by the news of her passing.
Describing her death as a significant loss, Mr. Antwi noted that she will be remembered for her strategic interventions and unique contributions to the enstoolment process. He urged other women in the family to emulate her qualities of uniqueness and selflessness. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
