Accra: A member of the legal team representing Abdul-Wahab Hanan Aludiba and his wife has called upon the Deputy Attorney General, Justice Srem-Sai, to cease spreading misinformation regarding the legal team's access to their clients at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
According to Ghana Web, the legal team has been present at the EOCO offices since the rearrest of their clients. However, they have been consistently denied access to them, which they argue is a violation of legal rights. The lawyer expressed surprise over the Deputy Attorney General's allegations against former Attorney General Godfred Dame, accusing him of engaging with the media instead of directly communicating with EOCO.
In a Facebook post, lawyer Boampong Yaw emphasized, "The Deputy Attorney General, with respect, must not mislead the public. Lawyers for Hanan were at the offices of EOCO immediately after his rearrest. We remained at EOCO throughout the entire day and were denied access to our client." He further mentioned that their attempts to visit their clients were thwarted by EOCO officers, citing "orders from above" as the reason.
The post also pointed out that Justice Srem-Sai has not personally visited the EOCO premises, yet he continues to make misleading claims about the situation. This, according to the legal team, undermines the credibility of his statements during recent interviews.
The rearrest of Abdul-Wahab Hanan Aludiba and his wife followed the Attorney General's decision to drop all previous charges against them. Justice Srem-Sai later stated on social media that new evidence had come to light, prompting the withdrawal of the initial charges to expedite court proceedings.
