Accra: Ghanaian dancehall musician Stonebwoy has spoken out in defense of Ghanaian men, who are often labeled as stingy. He contends that this perception is due to their careful calculation of spending rather than an unwillingness to spend money.
According to Ghana Web, Stonebwoy made these remarks in a recent interview after the host referenced common stereotypes about Ghanaians, including being 'stingy.' Stonebwoy countered these claims by suggesting that Ghanaian men are simply adept at mathematics, often assessing their financial circumstances before spending.
Stonebwoy emphasized the importance of honesty among Ghanaian men, advising them to be transparent with women about their financial capabilities. He argued that honesty could foster respect and reduce pressure to overspend. He highlighted the negative impact of making unfulfillable promises, using the example of a man promising a boat ride without the means to pay for it, which could tarnish the reputation of other Ghanaian men.
Furthermore, Stonebwoy drew a comparison between Ghanaian and Nigerian men regarding their spending habits on women. He noted that Nigerian men are generally more willing to take financial risks, often going out of their way for women, even if they later regret the expenditure. Stonebwoy explained that spending money on a loved one is a personal choice, encouraging individuals to follow their hearts.
