Accra: The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has unveiled plans to develop the Monkey Hill Forest into a modern eco-tourism park. Mr Frederick F. Faidoo, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive, revealed this initiative during the Second Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the Ninth Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly in Sekondi.
According to Ghana News Agency, a private investor has submitted a proposal to redevelop the Monkey Hill Forest into an eco-tourism park through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement. The proposal aims to transform the existing site into a modern eco-park, enhancing tourism, recreation, and environmental conservation within the metropolis.
Mr Faidoo explained that the proposed partnership intends to upgrade the facility into a more attractive tourist destination, which would include the introduction of additional animal species and improved visitor amenities, alongside the existing monkey population. The Assembly's management plans to conduct necessary assessments and engage stakeholders to evaluate the feasibility of the proposal, ensuring that any partnership protects the interests of the Assembly.
He also highlighted that the finalization of the partnership is expected to contribute to job creation, tourism promotion, and socio-economic development in the metropolis.
