Accra: The management of St. Monica's Senior High School has appealed to stakeholders, parents, and the government to assist in constructing an ultra-modern ICT and library complex.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Cynthia Asamoah Gyimah, Headmistress of the school, highlighted the importance of learning resources in the 21st-century learning environment during the official launch of the school's 80th-anniversary celebration.
Dr. Gyimah emphasized that the proposed infrastructure would upgrade digital resources for hands-on learning, expand access to global knowledge, and empower students to navigate a technologically driven world. The ICT and library complex aims to provide access to global resources, help students develop technological skills, and excel in the digital space.
The anniversary's theme, '80 Years of Girls' Empowerment; Educating Generations and Transforming Lives,' underscores the impact of girls' education on breaking poverty barriers and transforming lives. Dr. Gyimah stressed the need for educational investment to ensure a progressive future and described the appeal for support as a step in the right direction.
Mrs. Paulina Adjei Maafo, global president of St. Monica's Old Girls Association (SMOSA), stated the goal to equip students with digital fluency, research capacity, and a high-tech learning environment. She urged stakeholders to support the initiative, emphasizing the importance of bringing the vision to fruition for the students.
Mrs. Maafo acknowledged the unwavering support of the SMOSA chapters globally in championing development projects for the school. Dr. Phyllis Tawiah, a Senior Lecturer at the School of Medical Sciences, KNUST, and a SMOSA, also appealed for investment in education to make a lasting impact on young women's lives.
In a message delivered on his behalf, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, affirmed the government's commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen educational infrastructure, promote gender equity, and enhance quality teaching and learning.
