Six Arrested After Deadly NewWinneba Clash

New-winneba: The Central Region Police Command has confirmed the arrest of six men in connection with violent clashes in New-Winneba that left three people dead and several others injured on Tuesday. The suspects are Kweku Kakraba, 52; Arko Thomas, 19; Samuel Tulasi, 19; Samuel Gyasi, 22; Emmanuel Okyere, 22; and Seth Osei, 22.

According to Ghana News Agency, a locally made single-barrel gun and one empty AAA cartridge were recovered from the crime scene, as stated in a police statement issued on Wednesday. The Police reported on Tuesday that clashes involving clubs, machetes, and stones erupted across parts of the town, injuring many and overwhelming residents.

Emergency responders and locals rushed the wounded to hospitals in Winneba, while three others later died and others remain hospitalized. The Central Region Command sent reinforcements and launched an investigation to determine motives and whether attackers acted in concert, urging public cooperation and help from community and traditional leaders.

Consequently, six snap checkpoints have been mounted, day-and-night patrols intensified, and the Police Intelligence Directorate and the Criminal Investigation Department personnel deployed to monitor the situation. According to the Police, the area remained calm and the situation was under control as the suspects were being held at the Cape Coast divisional headquarters as investigations continue.
