Tumu: The Sissala East Municipal Assembly has commenced the construction of a 24-hour economy market facility in Tumu, intended to realize the government's policy of enabling businesses to operate continuously throughout the day.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Adamu Yakubu, the Sissala East Municipal Chief Executive, highlighted the project's importance during a durbar, noting its potential to boost local revenue and provide a secure environment for night-time trading. The project will include various facilities such as a Police post, fire post, hydrant, a six-bed clinic, and a pharmacy.
The market will also feature an environmental office, a Market manager's office, an information centre, a parcel office with storage, 94 lockable shops, 150 open sheds, 176 open pavement selling areas, 17 showers, 18 washrooms (W/Cs), 10 warehouses, a lorry terminal, and a meat shop. Additional amenities include a cold store, refuse disposal and collection point, drainage system, food court, livestock bay, a cr¨che, a Women's Bank, a saloon/barbering shop, a mall/supermarket, a 6-bed hostel with guest rooms, and disability-friendly and security infrastructure to support round-the-clock economic activities.
The MCE reassured traders whose stores are slated for demolition, promising them priority in moving back into the new modern stores once completed. He emphasized the Assembly's commitment to transparency and prioritizing existing traders.
Valued at GHS 33 million, with 40 percent of the total sum already released, the project is being executed by Velin and Company Limited under the technical supervision of Homeland Resources Limited. Traders expressed hope that the Assembly would ensure the project's completion, avoiding delays that have plagued similar initiatives in the past.
