Accra: Veteran Ghanaian broadcaster and Presidential Special Envoy to the Caribbean, Kwesi Kyei Darkwah, popularly known as KKD, has recounted how businessman Sam Jonah single-handedly supported his television show during its early days at GBC. KKD shared his experiences in an interview on Power FM, highlighting the crucial role Sir Sam Jonah played in the success of his show, KKD 45.
According to Ghana Web, KKD narrated how he embarked on launching his popular show, KKD 45, on GBC without any sponsorship. Driven by a desire to make a significant impact in the media industry, he initially used his personal funds to finance the programme. He explained that GBC was not providing opportunities for new shows, which motivated him to take matters into his own hands by buying airtime and starting his own show.
KKD further recounted a turning point when Sir Sam Jonah reached out to him after receiving positive feedback about the show from international audiences. Sir Sam Jonah expressed his surprise that KKD was funding the show himself and was impressed by its impact. This led to Sir Sam Jonah offering financial support, covering the costs of the programme and even compensating the team working with KKD.
