Dakar: The Federation of Senegal Football (FSF) has announced that it has assumed full responsibility for the suspensions and fines imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following their team's misconduct in the AFCON final. The federation noted that after carefully reviewing CAF's sanctions, it has accepted its shortcomings and will not appeal the decision.
According to Ghana Web, in a statement released by the federation, it was indicated that head coach of the Teranga Lions, Pape Thiaw, along with other players who were fined and suspended, will comply in order to safeguard the integrity of football on the continent. The Federation of Senegalese Football (FSF) informed the national and international public that it has officially acknowledged decision DC23315 issued on January 28, 2026, by the Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). After analyzing said decision, the FSF notified the continental body of its intention not to appeal the sporting and financial sanctions imposed upon it. This waiver of appeal also applies to the individual disciplinary measures concerning: the National Team Coach, Pape Bouna Thiaw; and the national team players, Ismala Sarr and Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye.
The FSF confirmed that it assumes full financial responsibility for the fines imposed on its association, technical staff, and players, in accordance with Article 91.4 of the CAF Disciplinary Code. The FSF reiterated its determination to defend its rights and interests within football's governing bodies.
The sanctions imposed by CAF include a suspension for Pape Bouna Thiaw for five official matches and a $100,000 fine for unsporting conduct. Players Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr are suspended for two official matches each for unsporting behavior towards the referee. The FSF itself faces fines totaling $615,000 for improper conduct of supporters, unsporting conduct of players and technical staff, and misconduct after multiple player cautions.
