Accra: Former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, continues to be held in prison custody even after being acquitted and discharged by the Court of Appeal. This development was revealed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
According to Ghana Web, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, stated that Tamakloe-Attionu has not been released because the Attorney-General has submitted an application for a stay of execution. The Attorney-General plans to challenge the Court of Appeal's decision at the Supreme Court.
The Chief Justice has permitted the Court of Appeal to convene during the legal vacation to address the Attorney-General's application for a stay of execution, with the hearing set for August 16. The Attorney-General's concern is that the former MASLOC executive might exit the country before the Supreme Court reviews the State's planned appeal. Consequently, the Attorney-General seeks to keep her in custody until the legal matters are resolved.
The Court of Appeal had previously overturned Tamakloe-Attionu's 10-year prison sentence, citing insufficient evidence from the prosecution. Nonetheless, due to the Attorney-General's pursuit of a stay of execution, she remains in custody while awaiting the outcome of the application and the anticipated Supreme Court appeal.
