Accra: Mr Adib Saani, Executive Director of the Jatikay Centre for Human Security and Peace Building, has urged security agencies to take urgent preventive measures over the funeral dispute of Apostle Professor Kwadwo Safo. He said recent developments surrounding the funeral arrangements had elevated the matter beyond a family disagreement into a public safety concern requiring immediate attention.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Saani noted that the earlier shooting incident, pending legal proceedings, and conflicting positions adopted by the parties had created a volatile situation. 'No funeral should become a flashpoint for violence or disorder,' he said. Mr Saani expressed concern that emotionally charged supporters could create conditions for confrontation even where the principal actors had no intention of resorting to violence.
He urged all parties to exercise restraint and place the dignity of the deceased and public safety above all considerations. Mr Saani called on the Ghana Police Service and other institutions to undertake a comprehensive security risk assessment and maintain a robust but impartial presence throughout funeral-related activities.
Mr Saani emphasized that intelligence-led policing, stakeholder engagement, effective crowd management, and strict enforcement of lawful court directives would be essential to preventing breaches of the peace. He stressed that the fluid nature of the situation demanded continuous vigilance and proactive responses to emerging threats. Disputes relating to succession, funeral arrangements, or estate matters should be resolved through lawful and peaceful means.
He concluded by stating that the late Apostle Professor Kwadwo Safo deserved a final farewell marked by dignity, unity, and peace rather than conflict. Mr Saani expressed hope that all stakeholders would cooperate with security agencies to ensure a peaceful outcome.
