Techiman: Nana Amponsah Yeboah Takrah II, of the Sanitation Committee of the Techiman Metropolitan Assembly, has cautioned community members against littering and indiscriminate waste disposal. He said the Assembly had resolved to enforce sanitation bye-laws, warning that offenders would not be spared, as strict implementation was the surest way to change people's bad attitude towards the environment.
According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Takrah, also the Ankobeahene (sub-chief) of the Techiman Traditional Council, emphasized that punishing offenders for sanitation violations would deter others who litter and dispose of refuse improperly. Speaking at a committee meeting in Techiman, he announced the formation of a special task force to enforce these bye-laws.
Nana Takrah highlighted the importance of improved sanitation and waste management for socio-economic development, urging stakeholder support for the effective implementation of the bye-laws. Mr. Kweku Adjie Mensah, the Techiman Metropolitan Chief Executive, added that contracts had been awarded for waste removal and stressed that unauthorized construction on waterways would be prohibited.
Oheneba Nana Antwi-Bosiako Owusu, the Kentenhene (sub-chief) of the Techiman Traditional Council, pledged the council's support for enforcing the bye-laws and announced a massive clean-up exercise on July 18, 2026. In collaboration with the Assembly, Techiman Youth Association, and security services, the initiative aims to rid the metropolis of filth.
Nana Owusu called on the public to depoliticize the clean-up exercise and encouraged participation to improve local sanitation conditions.
