Accra: Ghanaian football administrator, Samuel Anim Addo, has come to the defense of Sharaf Mahama, the Chief Executive Officer of Legacy Rise Sport, following criticisms regarding his source of income. The son of President John Dramani Mahama has been instrumental in promoting and elevating boxing standards in Ghana through his agency, which is known for organizing international boxing events.
According to Ghana Web, Sharaf Mahama hosted the 'Battle of the Beasts' at the Bukom Boxing Arena and the 'The Showdown' bout at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on December 20, 2025. However, these events have sparked discussions among some individuals questioning the financial backing behind such large-scale international competitions.
In response to the criticisms, Anim Addo labeled the allegations as politically motivated, aimed at tarnishing the reputation of both Sharaf Mahama and his father, President Mahama. He expressed discontent with the attacks, suggesting that they stem from Sharaf's familial ties to the presidency.
"Some people around also wanted to push an agenda. It's okay, we understand it. But moving forward, I don't like it when people attack Sharaf just because his father is a president," Anim Addo stated in an interview with Citi Sports. He further emphasized that Sharaf's involvement in boxing is not newfound, as he has been engaged in the sport since his early years, receiving guidance and support from various quarters.
Anim Addo highlighted Sharaf's dedication and investment in the sport, noting that his efforts have significantly raised Ghana's profile on the global boxing stage. He urged critics to refrain from politicizing Sharaf's achievements, pointing out that the young promoter has provided a platform for Ghanaian boxers to display their talents internationally.
"I want to tell everyone who wants to use this to play politics against him to stop. He has put Ghana on the map. Ghanaian boxers were able to showcase themselves. Although we didn't get everything we wanted, I believe in the technical team around him," Anim Addo concluded, reaffirming his support for Sharaf Mahama's contributions to boxing in Ghana.
