Accra: Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has called on the government to urgently address the erratic power situation affecting various regions. In a Facebook post on April 27, 2026, Awuku expressed concern over the increasing pressure being placed on students preparing for major national examinations due to power outages.
According to Ghana Web, Awuku highlighted the significant impact of the outages on students who depend on evening hours for study, describing the situation as a source of stress and uncertainty during a critical phase of their academic journey. He emphasized the importance of providing a stable environment, stating that it could greatly influence academic performance.
Awuku directly appealed to the government, emphasizing the need for immediate action to ensure students have a fair and stable environment to prepare for and take their exams. He also pointed out that the power crisis is affecting small businesses, young entrepreneurs, and informal sector workers, as the unreliable power supply disrupts productivity and income.
The frequent power outages, known locally as 'dumsor,' have resurfaced in parts of the country, evoking memories of previous power crises that impacted daily life, commerce, and education. Awuku called on John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Energy and Green Transition to take urgent steps to restore stable electricity supply, underlining that thousands of students deserve peace of mind as they prepare for their examinations.
