Tema: The Salvation Army Basic School has claimed the top position in the basic schools' march past competition during the Tema West Municipality's celebration of Ghana's 69th Independence Day.
According to Ghana News Agency, the school's neat and orderly display secured them the first place under the national theme: 'Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope.' Adjei Kojo TWMA 1 Basic School and Baatsona Basic School followed in second and third place, respectively. The event also saw participation from Lovely Montessori School, Star Junior High School, Klagon TWMA School, St Gabriel International School, and Sakumono TWMA Junior High School.
The celebration was marked by performances from the Boys and Girls Scouts Club of St John Bosco and the Tema Secondary School Cadet Corps. During his speech, Mr Ludwig Teye Totimeh, the Tema West Municipal Chief Executive, honored the forebears who fought for Ghana's independence. He highlighted the theme's emphasis on unity and prosperity, urging citizens to work collaboratively for national development.
Mr Totimeh stressed Independence Day as a time for reflection on the nation's journey and a moment to honor those who sacrificed for freedom. He assured residents that the assembly is committed to enhancing infrastructure, with improvements in roads, schools, and public facilities. Highlighting educational progress, he noted that five students from the municipality excelled in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at the national level.
Among the outstanding students recognized at the event was Master Yaw Quainoo from Prince of Peace Presbyterian School, who was named the best male student among private schools in the municipality.
