Accra: Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Salaga South in the Savannah Region, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of His Royal Majesty Ya-Na Abukari II, Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, describing him as a symbol of peace, unity, and wise leadership.
According to Ghana News Agency, the MP issued a statement to mourn the late monarch, joining the Chiefs and people of the Dagbon Kingdom and the entire nation in their grief. The statement emphasized her profound sadness, highlighting that the loss is felt not only in the Northern Region but across the whole of Ghana.
The announcement of Ya-Na's passing, made by the head of the Dagbon Kingmakers following customary rites at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, has been met with deep sorrow. Hajia Ibrahimah described the late Ya-Na as more than just a traditional ruler, noting that he was a father figure and a custodian of peace whose leadership brought stability to the Dagbon Kingdom during challenging times.
Ya-Na Abukari II's dedication to peace, reconciliation, and the preservation of tradition earned him widespread admiration, and his legacy is expected to endure. The MP highlighted the significance of this loss for Salaga South, a region home to several Dagomba communities, alongside the Gonja and other ethnic groups.
The statement further expressed that the peace championed by Ya-Na Abukari II during his reign enabled diverse communities in Salaga-South and East Gonja to prosper together. Hajia Ibrahimah extended her deepest condolences to the Gbewaa Palace and the entire Dagbon Kingdom, hoping that the late Ya-Na's legacy would continue to guide the people of Dagbon and inspire national unity.
