Rotaract Club of Adenta Central, Rotary Club of St. John’s East donate computers, refurbish ICT lab for Sowa Din Memorial JHS

In a bit to further one of Rotary International’s Areas of focus, Basic Education and Literacy, the Rotaract Club of Adenta Central in partnership with the Rotary Club of St. John’s East, Canada, have donated 15 computers and refurbished the IT laboratory of the Sowa Din Memorial ‘1’ Junior High School, Ashaley Botwe in the Adenta Municipality.

Presenting the computers, President of the Rotaract Club of Adenta Central, Noah Tietaah Yakubu, said the project which started last year was in partnership with the Rotary Club of St. John’s East, Canada.

According to Mr. Yakubu, the club was able to raise about GHC38,000 to procure the computers and refurbish the IT Lab to enhance teaching and learning in the municipality.

The Club President further urged management of the school “to make very good use of the computers. Students were advised that in the use of the computers, they should exercise all necessary precautionary measures so as to keep the computers in good shape for other future beneficiaries”.

The Headmaster of the school, Kelvin Addo Sunu said Sowa Din Memorial ‘1’ JHS has been in existence for more than 70 years but no where in its history did it have access to such ICT tools until now. The School through its Headteachers in the past has tried in many ways to ensure the school has a working ICT Lab but this wasn’t possible.

The donation of the 15 Computers is therefore a great feat by the school and “with a population of about 700 students, it will be able to help them in the teaching and learning of ICT.

He expressed gratitude to Rotaract Club of Adenta Central and the Rotary Club of St. John’s East, Canada for the donation and promised that they will take very good care of them.

The SISO (Circuit Supervisor), Cynthia Asiedu also present at the ceremony expressed gratitude for the donation and said this donation makes Sowa Din Memorial ‘1’ JHS the only school with an ICT Lab in good shape within the district. Before this donation, the whole Adenta Municipal had a miniature ICT Lab.
