Araba Nyameye’s ‘Faky3m’, a sinner’s cry

The Ghanaian gospel music scene has seen a tremendous transformation since the early 1980s. Over the years, the genre has gradually taken a front row seat in the Ghanaian religious and social life. Adding to the pool of dedicated and talented gospel artistes in the country, is the songstress Araba Nyameye, who is set to release her first single for the year 2022 entitled ‘’Fakyεm’’.

Speaking about the song, Araba revealed that it draws inspiration from a Christian’s perspective in their connection to Christ. ‘’As always, I use my song as a medium or channel to share my experience of Jesus Christ with others. In a world filled with trials and tribulations, there is no doubt that we will falter many a time, and should such an unfortunate occurrence befall you, I want my voice, through my song, to be a reminder that there is a God who will strengthen and uplift you.

The song, ‘’Fakyεm’’ which literally translates as ‘’forgive me’’ in the Fante language, is more than a song. It is a sinner’s cry out to their maker. A creation’s plea to its creator, admitting its fallibility, yet seeking forgiveness, a fortuity we all; regardless of our religious predilection, can relate to. The song takes its biblical underpinning from Romans 7:21-24 where the Apostle Paul acknowledged his imperfections as a result of a continual conflict between his mind and the sinful flesh. It then reiterates the admonition of 1 John 1:9, where we are reminded that the magnanimous God we worship is willing and ready to forgive us, provided we confess and repent from our wrongdoings.

‘’Fakyεm’’ is slated to be released and made available on all music platforms on 1st April 2022, a perfect time as we head into the Easter season which symbolises Christ’s death and resurrection which paid the debt of our sins.
