Resource Together Inaugurates First Community Library at Akroso Islamic Basic School

Akroso: Resource Together has opened a new community library at the Akroso Islamic Basic School in the Eastern Region, aiming to promote reading and improve academic performance among students. This marks the first functional community library in the Asene Manso Akroso District, equipped with a variety of reading materials, tables, and chairs to facilitate teaching and learning.

According to Ghana News Agency, the initiative was spearheaded by Mr. Eugene Yeboah, Founder and CEO of Resource Together, an organization established in 2024. Resource Together aims to bridge the gap between affluent communities and deprived areas, especially in rural Ghana, by redistributing surplus educational and medical resources from developed nations to those in need.

Mr. Yeboah explained that the organization observed a significant disparity between the excess resources available in the United States and the shortages faced by schools and clinics in rural Ghana. This observation inspired their mission to collect donated books, laptops, and medical supplies, which are then delivered to underserved communities in Ghana.

The transformation of Akroso Islamic Basic School is one of Resource Together's significant accomplishments. Upon the organization's first visit to the school in 2024, students lacked access to reading materials and computer education. Initially, Resource Together donated 600 books, followed by additional learning materials and four laptops. Within months, the impact was evident, with students showing measurable improvements in reading, writing, and mathematics. Some students even competed in a regional academic competition, where the school secured second place.

Building on this progress, Resource Together supported the construction of the community library, now serving over 79,000 people in the Asene Manso Akroso District. The library, housing more than 5,000 books, is envisioned as a lasting educational resource for the community and neighboring areas.

Beyond Akroso, Resource Together has extended support to seven communities across the Eastern, Central, and Volta regions, donating over 10,000 books and essential medical supplies to schools and rural health facilities. The organization has also provided laptops and medical supplies to the Central Tongu District Health Directorate in the Volta region and collaborated with various local and international NGOs to promote healthy living through free health screening exercises in Greater Accra and the Volta region.

As Resource Together continues its expansion, Mr. Yeboah emphasized the focus on sustaining current projects while reaching out to other communities still in need.

Mr. Ibrahim Ahmed Botwe, Head Teacher of Akroso Islamic Basic School, expressed gratitude to Resource Together and its founder for their intervention. He acknowledged that the new facility had given students knowledge, hope, and a brighter future, and appealed to other organizations and individuals to support education in deprived communities. Mr. Botwe highlighted the transformation, noting that the library has become a cherished space for students to read and study, symbolizing the significant impact of Resource Together's contribution.
