Cape coast: Rev Canon Prof Confidence Bansah, founder of the Centre for Religion and Public Life (CRPL) and Lecturer in Religion and Human Values at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), has condemned the reported sexual abuse of an eight-year-old boy, calling for the matter to be handled with urgency and sensitivity.
According to Ghana Web, Rev Canon Dr Bansah reacted to the reports in a post on X on August 14, 2026, describing the allegations as 'deeply disturbing' and calling for the strongest possible condemnation of sexual abuse against children. "The reported sexual abuse of an eight-year-old boy is deeply disturbing and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. No child should ever be subjected to such a horrific act, and the fact that the alleged victim is a minor makes the situation even more serious," he stated.
Rev Canon Prof Bansah emphasized that children are among the most vulnerable members of society and must be safeguarded against sexual exploitation, abuse, and violence. He also urged for the protection of the identity and dignity of the alleged victim, calling on authorities and the public to handle the matter with the utmost sensitivity. "If the allegations are established, the law must bite," he asserted.
He further insisted that there should be no tolerance for impunity when a child's safety and wellbeing are at risk. "Society has a collective responsibility to protect children, speak up against abuse, and ensure that perpetrators face the full consequences of their actions," he added.
His comments came in response to a video that emerged on social media, featuring a young man reportedly 24 years old, allegedly caught sexually abusing the eight-year-old boy. In the video shared on X on August 12, 2026, the young man, identified as Morrison, was seen kneeling as concerned individuals questioned him about the alleged incident.
As per the account given in the one-minute video, Morrison allegedly lured the boy, who was tending to cattle at the time, into a classroom with an offer of GHS20. It was further alleged that Morrison had previously sexually assaulted the boy and had returned to allegedly repeat the act.
The emergence of the video has incited widespread reactions on social media, with numerous users urging the Ghana Police Service to investigate the matter and take appropriate action. The incident has also reignited concerns about the safety and protection of children from sexual abuse.
