Kumasi: Professor Christian Agyare, Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has called for the renaming of the Ghana Prisons Service to the Ghana Correctional Service. This proposal, according to him, would facilitate more support for the institution. Prof Agyare made this recommendation during a meeting with the Ashanti Regional Prisons Command, complimenting them on their work.
According to Ghana Web, the meeting took place at the Vice-Chancellor's Conference Hall, where Prof Agyare met with Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP) James B Mwinyelle (Ing), who is also the Officer-In-Charge of the Kumasi Central Prison. DDP Mwinyelle presented a Proposal for Support for the Kumasi Central Prison, which includes initiatives related to Inmate Skills Training, Inmate Health (Basic Medicine), and Agriculture (Aquaculture).
DDP Mwinyelle expressed gratitude for the Vice-Chancellor's previous visit and emphasized a desire for sustained collaboration. He assured Prof Agyare of the ongoing efforts by the Prisons Administration to consider the renaming of the Service, aligning with the Vice-Chancellor's vision.
The delegation accompanying the Regional Commander included the Regional Public Relations Officer, CSP Richard M Bukari, Supt Ernestina Essien (Physician Assistant), and Sgt Wisdom C Arthur.
