Accra: Following the alleged xenophobic attacks, veteran Ghanaian hiplife musician Reggie Rockstone has called on South African musicians to condemn the situation in their country, questioning the silence of influential artistes on the issue.
According to Ghana Web, in a video shared on his Instagram page, Reggie Rockstone expressed disappointment that many musicians with large platforms had not used their influence to speak out or advocate for peace among Africans. He challenged South African musicians directly, urging them to take a stand and voice their concerns over the ongoing attacks.
Reggie Rockstone recalled how musicians across the world once united through music in solidarity with South Africans during the apartheid era. He lamented the perceived lack of response to current xenophobic attacks that foreigners are subjected to in South Africa, contrasting it with the global musical activism seen during apartheid.
He emphasized the significant role musicians play in shaping public opinion and driving social change, insisting that artistes should not remain silent in the face of injustice. Reggie also highlighted the power and influence musicians wield, calling for immediate action and solidarity, much like the global response during apartheid.
Reggie further noted the welcoming attitude of Ghanaians toward South African artistes, expecting similar solidarity in return. He underscored the importance of African unity and urged musicians across the continent, including Afrobeats stars and Ghanaian artistes, to use their platforms to promote peace and speak out against violence.
