Accra: Ghanaian dancehall artiste Ras Kuuku has waded into the ongoing national debate over insults and online attacks against political figures. He called on the youth to put a stop to attacks directed at President John Dramani Mahama and other political leaders.
According to Ghana Web, Ras Kuuku, in an interview with Hitz FM, addressed the escalating level of insults and false accusations being hurled at politicians, urging it to stop. He emphasized the importance of criticism without resorting to insults. “The insults against politicians are getting too much. We should put a stop to it. We can criticise. But the insults and false accusations, let us do away with that,” he stated.
Ras Kuuku further explained that employing someone does not justify insulting them. He drew an analogy to a family scenario, saying, “You can’t insult your own uncle. If you have a business and you employ your uncle and he’s not doing a good job, will you insult him? So we have employed the president; if he’s not doing well, let us tell him. If you insult him, it means you are ignoring his work and attacking him personally,” he said.
The artiste urged the public to engage in constructive criticism rather than personal attacks, stating that such conduct would not be tolerated. “We can’t and we will never take it. Let us move from the insults and the false accusations and rather criticise the government constructively,” he added.
His comments come amid a highly publicised crackdown on content creators who have been arrested for posting videos on TikTok and other social media platforms containing insults, death threats, and abusive content targeting the president, his family, the vice president, and other high-profile individuals.
