Accra: Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem has disclosed that Rans Logistics has refunded GHS19.1 million to the state after an Auditor-General's report highlighted overpayments in grain transport contracts. The findings were part of the Auditor-General's GHS68 billion arrears report.
According to Ghana Web, Ampem, during his address to Parliament's Public Accounts Committee on March 30, 2026, stated that the repayment underscores the audit's significance in protecting public funds. He mentioned that the findings were presented to Parliament on March 10, and by March 17, Rans Logistics had refunded the identified amount to the state. The audit also revealed payments for over 7,000 metric tonnes of rice that remain unaccounted for.
Ampem expressed expectations for reimbursement of the value of the unaccounted rice and noted that the Attorney General is actively working to recommend appropriate actions for all identified financial discrepancies. He highlighted the audit's critical role in preserving state resources and emphasized that its objectives are already being met.
The government is hopeful for additional repayments as authorities continue to review the report and pursue further recoveries where necessary.
