Accra: Mama Bobi III, the Queen of the Bake Clan of Ho Bankoe in the Asogli Traditional Area, has donated more than 70 Lenovo ThinkPad laptops to selected schools in Ho to promote digital education and bridge the technology gap among students.
According to Ghana News Agency, the computers are part of a consignment of 200 computers, including 150 Lenovo ThinkPads and 50 desktop computers, which the Queen secured during a visit to the United Nations last year through engagements with distinguished Ghanaians. Mama Bobi III explained that her desire to create opportunities for children to thrive in the digital age inspired this initiative.
'It was not merely a transaction of technology; it was a covenant of hope for our children,' she stated, emphasizing her commitment to serving her community. The Queen personally delivered some of the computers, reflecting her belief that a leader's true throne lies in serving her people.
The beneficiary institutions include Sonrise Senior High School, Kabore Primary School, RC Primary School (Mixed and Girls' Sections), EP Primary School, Bankoe, and LIFE-MAC Africa, chosen for its outstanding STEM programmes across the Volta Region. The distribution aimed to support teaching and learning and equip students with practical digital skills.
Mama Bobi III reflected on the positive impact of her efforts, noting the excitement on the faces of the pupils and students as a reinforcement of her commitment to investing in education. 'Each screen we placed before them is a window to possibility and a bridge across the digital divide that has held our communities back for too long,' she remarked.
The Queen expressed that empowering children through education brings her the greatest fulfillment in her role as a traditional leader. She hopes the donation will inspire innovation, creativity, and academic excellence among the beneficiaries, contributing to nurturing future leaders.
Mama Bobi III concluded with a call to action, urging individuals, corporate organizations, and development partners to support efforts to expand access to quality education and digital learning resources. 'For my people, I will always rise. For our future, I will always give,' she affirmed.
