Atebubu: Nana Sarfowaa, the Queen mother of the Atebubu Yam Market Association in the Bono East Region, has performed traditional rites to open the harvest and sale of yams in the crop season. She emphasized the area's bumper harvest this season and poured libation to express gratitude to their ancestors and the local deity for the bountiful crop season.
According to Ghana News Agency, during a brief ceremony at the Atebubu Yam Market, Nana Sarfowaa stated, "We have to thank our ancestors for the fertility of the land and a rich harvest." She also reminded the yam sellers that with the completion of the customary rites, they were expected to sell their produce in the market rather than along the roadside.
The Queen mother highlighted the significance of the custom in unifying farmers, marketers, and traditional leaders as they transition into the new harvest cycle. However, Nana Sarfowaa expressed concern over the poor sanitary conditions at the market, urging the Atebubu and Amantin Municipal Assembly to upgrade the facility to enhance public health and safety.
