Accra: The countdown to the 7th edition of Ghana's premier urban cycling race, PRURide 2026, is underway, with the Elite Race set to take place on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at 12 noon on the Borteyman Highway (University Farm Road). This event promises to bring together competitive cyclists for separate male and female races, with challenging distances that will test the endurance and skill of all participants.
According to Ghana Web, the male race will cover a distance of 112 kilometres, while the female race will span 67.2 kilometres. The Elite Race is open to riders who hold a UCI licence or club membership, ensuring a high level of competition. Eligible riders are required to register through their respective cycling clubs or via the Ghana Cycling Federation.
Beyond the competitive aspect, PRURide serves as a platform for cyclists and cycling clubs to engage in organized road racing, thereby contributing to the visibility and growth of cycling in Ghana. The event not only showcases talent but also promotes cycling as a sport within the country.
PRURide 2026 is spearheaded by a collaboration between the Ghana Cycling Federation, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate, and several other national organizations. The event is sponsored by Prudential Life Insurance Ghana and produced by RITE Sports Services, with contributions from Decathlon Ghana, Life Healthcare Centre, and Aldin Cycles.
